The number that counts

207 mg magnesium. The real number.

Magnesium always comes bound to something, so labels can be confusing. We declare the magnesium itself, the amount that counts toward your daily needs.

Magnesium contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system.

Comparison based on published nutrition information for sleep-positioned hot chocolate and cacao drinks sold in the UK, Ireland and internationally, reviewed September 2026. ‘Typical sleep hot chocolate’ reflects declared elemental magnesium of 57–105 mg per serving across the products reviewed. NRV = Nutrient Reference Value (375 mg magnesium).

How to read a magnesium label

Magnesium can't be added on its own. It's bound to another molecule, like glycine. That compound weighs much more than the magnesium it carries, so ‘1,000 mg magnesium bisglycinate’ can contain as little as ~140 mg of actual magnesium. When comparing products, look for ‘Magnesium (mg)’ and ‘% NRV’ in the nutrition table.
