Magnesium comes bound to something else, and that partner decides how it tastes and how it behaves in a drink. Bisglycinate is magnesium bound to two molecules of glycine, an amino acid. Chemists call it a chelate. It has a mild taste, which is why we can use it in a proper hot chocolate. Each sachet has 207 mg of elemental magnesium (55% NRV), within EFSA’s 250 mg level for supplemental magnesium.
Bisglycinate and citrate compared
Both are organic forms of magnesium. Studies comparing how well they’re absorbed are few and point both ways, so we talk about what we can show: taste, and a label that states the magnesium itself.
